☀️ A Little Summer Inspiration: 6 Quotes to Lift You Up! 🌻

Sunset swim at Lakeshore Beach, Prince Edward County, Ontario.

Hello!

Ah, summer! A season of long days, swims, gatherings and carefree fun. But even during the brightest months, we can find ourselves in a bit of a funk, feeling tired, discouraged or simply a little out of sorts.

That is where I have been lately: nothing too serious, but feeling a little stuck and looking for small ways to lift myself out of it.

Even with the hot weather, I have been trying to walk and ride my bike more in the early morning and evening. A real shift began when a few friends joined us for a sunset swim at our favourite beach. We arrived to find the wildest waves I had ever seen there. For the next two hours, we rode them like professional surfers, laughing and screaming the entire time. It was exhilarating and the most fun I had experienced in months.

We almost didn’t go because my funky mood told me I didn’t feel like it. That night, I had the best sleep I had enjoyed in weeks, and I could feel that something had shifted. Perhaps my nervous system needed a good shake-up.

After some movement and time in nature, I turned to the inspiring words of some of my favourite poets, writers and spiritual teachers. Their wisdom gave me the final nudge I needed to find my way back.

  1. “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”  ~ Mary Oliver

  2. “The present moment is the only moment in which we can be alive.”‍ ‍ ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

3. “No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.” ~ Virginia Woolf

4. “The basic source of all happiness is a sense of kindness and warm-heartedness towards others.” ~ The Dalai Lama

5. “Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”‍ ‍ ~ Maya Angelou

6. “Let the beauty we love be what we do.”  ‍~ ‍ ‍Rumi

These 6 quotes have reminded me to slow down, notice the beauty around me, remain open to joy, and be fully present and grateful. Perhaps they will brighten your day as well. I would love to hear from you. Let me know in the comments below what helps you get out of a funk.

Until next time, enjoy every minute of the beautiful summer days because you know it will be over in the blink of an eye. Be open to the small moments that can shift your mood, lift your spirits and bring you back to yourself.

Be well.
