About Anita Barnes

Yoga has been part of my life for more than 40 years.

In the 1970s, I watched my mother ease herself into what seemed like strange postures and witnessed the strength, serenity, and steadiness that her regular practice brought her. I was inspired—and curious. That early exposure set me on a lifelong path.

I became a yoga student in the 1980s and began teaching in 1998. Over the years, a consistent Yoga and Meditation practice has transformed my life. It has given me simple, reliable tools that have kept my once-chronic back pain at bay and supported me through periods of depression and anxiety. For me, yoga is not just something I do—it’s a way of living. Since my earliest training, my mission has been to make yoga accessible to everyone.

After a 32-year career in community mental health and law, I retired in 2019 and moved from Toronto to Picton with my husband, Ben, and enjoy spending time with him and our furbabies, Peggy and Molly.

I taught at a Toronto yoga studio for more than 12 years, ran my own studio—Leslieville Yoga—for over a decade, and in May 2020, I opened County Yoga Loft.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat and sharing all that yoga has to offer.
