What’s Cooking this Holiday Season?

Hello!

Are you gathering for a big feast this month? Have you planned your holiday dinner yet? Are you lucky enough that someone else is doing all the cooking?

I’ve been hosting Christmas dinners for as long as I can remember, gathering anywhere from 2-30 people. Some were potlucks, but most of the time, we cooked all the food! I don’t mind doing this each year because it’s not nearly as stressful as it used to be, and it’s always delightful to break bread with those you love. After decades of trial and error, we have created a system that makes things less chaotic. One Christmas, we hosted our annual Orphan Christmas for a large group of people, and we didn’t start the prep work and cooking until the morning of the event. The meal was served 2 hours late! Thank goodness we recovered and learned from this experience, and now start the prep work days in advance.

At this time each year, I start planning our Christmas dinner menu and often share my favourite recipes with you. I’ve shared some of these before, and this time, I decided to include choices so you have more than one option for a main dish, stuffing, gravy, side dish, salad and dessert.

I’ve made all these delicious, plant-based recipes many times. I recommend doubling or even tripling the recipes so you can enjoy leftovers for a few days and send your guests home with a care package. I am leaning toward Shepherd’s Pie as a main dish this year, but I am undecided about the rest.

Main Dishes

GF Peanut Butter Brownies

Pumpkin Pie Squares

Vegan Eggnog

Eating exquisite food with loved ones is always the highlight of this season for me. We shouldn’t take for granted the importance of being together. It’s more precious than ever.

The above recipes are scrumptious and kinder options for the planet, animals, and humanity. If switching to an entirely plant-based diet doesn’t interest you, commit to increasing how much plant-based food you eat at each meal.

This will be my last blog for 2024, and I’m grateful for your ongoing support. I’ll teach my last yoga class on December 21st and hope you can join me for my annual New Year’s Day Zoom Yoga class. Check out the details here:
