What do you need to Resurrect in your life?

With Spring & Easter upon us and extra-long walks with Peggy, I’ve been thinking a lot about resurrection beyond the Christian faith and looking at it from a more individual spiritual perspective.  We could all do with some resurrecting after a challenging few years and coming out of a harsh winter.

We adopted Peggy last June, which means that she spent most of last Spring in the shelter waiting for her perfect parents (Ben and me) to adopt her and Molly.  She may be making up for not getting much outdoor time last Spring because we’ve never seen her act like this.  Spring Fever has resurrected her inner puppy, and she’s been acting like a petulant teenager.  In the last few weeks, she thought it was cool to chase wolves early one morning, ran away and was missing for close to 2 hours, and has become obsessed with finding and eating roadkill and then dealing with the gastric consequences.

It has been exhausting and amusing to see her with so much energy and joy!   During one of our walks last week, I smiled at her mischievous dips in the cold water and reflected on what I wanted to resurrect in my life this Spring.

Walking and connecting with nature are my favourite activities and have become a spiritual practice and a must to keep me sane during this pandemic.  I’m accompanied by Peggy, Ben, or my friend Liz on many of my walks and adore this way of connecting.  Peggy’s exuberance has helped me realize I need to resurrect connections to family and friends and find more time for solitude.  I want more of both, but in a balanced way.

We’re having more family and friend gatherings and weekend visits that have filled me with pure joy.  I’m also making sure I take regular long walks alone with Peggy.   After about 15 minutes of breathing the clean air and hearing the leaves rustle, I feel a deep sense of calm and presence.  This allows me to detangle the knots of scattered thoughts and become clearer and more creative about what I need to focus on in my life.  Of course, Peggy’s mania has interrupted this serenity somewhat, but she has become a bit more climatized to the olfactory assaults of Spring in the last few days.

I feel that I’ve restored some very important things for me.

As you look around and see evidence everywhere of things coming back to life, what can you resurrect and reconnect with in your life?

Can you find the motivation to recommit to your self-care, relationships and community?

Allow the delightful sight of buds, green shoots and birds to remind you of the aliveness of this season and let them be the impetus for renewal.

Don’t allow another covid wave to knock you down.  I encourage you to take the time to identify what areas of your life are dormant and need to be resurrected.

Wishing you a Happy Easter and I hope the Easter Bunny is good to you.

Be well.
