Embrace Autumn With Intention.

Hello!

Ahhhhh, it’s September, and soon, autumn will come! 🍂

Are you eagerly anticipating the cooler weather, clear blue skies, and the golden sunshine? I've been patiently waiting for the magic of autumn colours and can't wait to experience it all. This is my favourite time of year. While I don't love summer, we made the best of it, cherished the summer evenings spent at the beach, and enjoyed lots of outdoor theatre and live music under the stars. 🌅

What I find most challenging in the summer, besides the energy sucking humidity, is the lack of motivation that I have.  My tried-and-true routines that keep me healthy and grounded seem to disappear, and even taking my supplements regularly appears to be onerous.  Sound familiar?

Without routines, we start to feel disjointed and stressed.  Routines are essential because they provide structure and stability in our daily lives. With them, you will manage your time more effectively, prioritize your to-do list, get more done, and reap additional psychological and health benefits.  🗓️     Source

A Seasonal Guide To Living More Mindfully This Autumn. 🍁

  1. 📓 Reflect & Realign

A season transition is the best time to reflect and check in on how your 2025 has unfolded. Ask yourself:

  • What's been working in 2025 up until now?

  • What do you think needs to be adjusted?

If there are things you still want to accomplish, create or just plain old get done before the end of the year, make it as simple as possible, and maybe only have one thing to work on.

From today, Wednesday, September 3rd, there are 119 days until January 1st, 2026.  We know it will go fast, but it’s still a fair amount of time to focus on what’s important.

If you are unsure how you want the rest of 2025 to be, then take some time to think about it. I get clear and inspired when I’m alone and with nature. In the next few weeks, I plan to take a few long hikes on those perfect autumn days. These hikes help me get crystal clear and clarify my priorities for the rest of the year.

Calming the chatter in your mind can give you answers on adapting or letting go of what no longer fits. Journalling about what comes up will help you create a clear path until the end of the year.

2. 🎃 Reconnect With Friends, Family & Community

Summers are busy, yet we often don’t have the time to see the people most important to us. Reach out and connect with loved ones. Have visitors, host a dinner party, and meet friends for a pumpkin spice latte.

We live in a small town, and every year, we say we are going to attend the local fall fairs, but every year, we miss them. This year, we are determined to participate in two, enjoy the largest pumpkin and best pumpkin pie contests, and be endeared by the tractor parade, hay rides, and pet shows.

3. 🌻 Connect With Nature

Stanford and Harvard Universities have studied the positive effects of hiking and concluded it positively impacts mental and physical health, impoves sleep, and lowers the stress hormone cortisol.

I cannot emphasize enough the healing that can occur in nature while admiring the fiery colours of autumn’s beauty. The dazzling colours are short-lived, so commit to spending time with them daily.  No matter what you are experiencing in your life, you will feel better when you walk through the woods or sit with the trees.

4. 🌠 Seasonal Rituals

Each fall, I attend a local Autumn Equinox event, walk the labyrinth, and then journal about my goals and intentions and what I want the rest of the year to look like. Maybe connecting to celestial happenings is not your thing. Can you create your own rituals? Light a candle and write down everything that you are grateful for.

Autumn brings many Celestial Delights. The Corn Moon will turn full at 2:10 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025.. The Autumnal Equinox will occur on Monday, September 22nd at 2:19 p.m. EDT.  The significance of the fall equinox is rooted in cosmic balance, marking a day of nearly equal night and day, and the transition into autumn, a period of harvest, reflection, and preparation for the colder months.

5. 🥘 Food

Farmers are entering harvest time and have an abundance of squash, pumpkin, zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, carrots and parsnips.  Dust off your crock pot and make a batch of healthy stews and soups you can freeze and eat for the next few months.

Autumn is a wonderful time for canning! It's the perfect season to preserve all those delicious fruits and veggies, ensuring you enjoy them throughout the winter. 🥫

And yes, I completely understand the mixed feelings about the pumpkin spice craze. It seems like everywhere you turn, there's another pumpkin spice product. However, there's something undeniably comforting about enjoying a pumpkin spice latte or two as the weather turns chilly. ☕🎃

6. 🕯️ Create Cozy Spaces

Cleaning might not be the most exciting task, but the satisfaction of a clean, organized home is well worth the effort. 🌟 To make the process more manageable, focus on key areas that could use attention. These are my priorities:

  • Oven & Kitchen Cupboards: Give your oven a nice scrub and tidy up those kitchen cupboards. You'll be amazed at how much easier cooking becomes in an organized space. 🍽️

  • Windows & Curtains: Clean your windows to let in more natural light and wash your curtains for a fresh, new look. This can instantly brighten up your home. 🌞

  • Paperwork & Clothing: Sort your paperwork and remove what you don't need. As the seasons change, it's also a great time to organize your wardrobe for fall and winter. 🍂👕

An organized home leads to an organized mind. Once you have some order for your home, consider decorating with autumn colours. What areas in your home need attention?

Self-care is at the core of the above suggestions. The vibrant energy of autumn can help catapult you to prioritize your well-being, reconnect with your self-care routines, and weave in new ones. Take a moment to revisit your goals at the beginning of the year. Ask yourself which ones still resonate with you and what might need adjustment. It's okay to pivot! Setting intentions is a powerful way to bring clarity and focus to your actions and decisions, creating a purposeful path forward.

Share in the comments below what you love most about autumn and what you plan to do to make the most of it.

Savour every moment of this season!
