About Louise Hay

Louise L. Hay was a bestselling author and internationally known leader in the self-help field. She was a metaphysical lecturer, teacher and author.  Her work has helped millions of people discover and use the full potential of their own creative power for personal growth and self-healing.  Her key message is: "If we are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed."

I first heard about Louise Hay over 20 years ago and read “You Can Heal Your Life” for the first time over 10 years ago.  I’ve also watched the movie at least 10 times.  This book has sold over 50 million copies and has been on the New York Time’s Bestseller List twice.

Louise Hay passed away at the age of 90 in 2017.

Her teachings have been transformative and when I follow the techniques and remain focused, my life is pretty amazing.   When I return to old patterns of thinking, I start to experience struggles.

You Can Heal Your Life Summary & Review

I haven't looked at this book for many years and decided to crack it open and reread it after dealing with severe hip pain a few weeks ago.     It was like visiting an old friend that always knows what to say when you're struggling.  Though I'm well acquainted with these teachings, I have to admit that I've been unfocused and quite grumpy lately.

The book is physically beautiful with gorgeous, colourful artwork on each page.

I would recommend reading through the book once and then slowly reread it and take time to do all the exercises.
Here's an excerpt from You Can Heal Your Life: "Life Is Really Very Simple. What We Give Out, We Get Back.  What we think about ourselves becomes the truth for us. I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for everything in our lives, the best and the worst. Every thought we think is creating our future. Each one of us creates our experiences by our thoughts and our feelings. The thoughts we think and the words we speak create our experiences."

If you have never been introduced to metaphysical teachings, the law of attraction, or mystical thinking, then this may all seem a little out there and woo woo for you, and I get that.  However, from personal experience, I can say that when I'm in a state of joy, appreciation and focused on my goals; I attract some unbelievable things into my life.  I don't have any scientific evidence or papers to back this up, but it has been my experience that what I focus on, expands, whether it's negative or positive.

The book has 3 parts

Part I - Introduction provides points about her philosophies and teachings.

Part II - Discusses how we create our problems, resistance to change and how to make changes.

Part III - Provides details on applying the concepts in the significant aspects of your life; relationships, work, success, prosperity and your body.

Louise believes that the thoughts we think and the words that we speak create our experiences and that the universe supports us in every thought we choose to think and believe.  No matter how bad your life was growing up or how bad it might be now, you can change this if you are willing to commit to changing how you view yourself and your situation.

Throughout the book, there are exercises; releasing the past, working on forgiveness, learning to love and accept yourself, becoming more positive, knowing that you can create anything you desire, and working on affirmations.

Working through the exercises will help you identify and change negative thinking patterns and how they affect your life, and most importantly, how to change this way of thinking.

The work is not easy and takes focus and commitment and a strong willingness to persevere, even when you don't feel like, especially if you don't feel like. It's worth it, and if you stick with it, you will experience positive changes in your life.

I just finished reading the book, and I'm about to begin a second, slower read and will take my time to work through the exercises.  I know that I need to work on forgiveness and some negative thinking and feel confident that this work will get me back on track.

I also recommend watching Louise Hay's movie "You Can Heal Your Life." If you google it, you will likely find a version that might have subtitles, but still ok to watch.
