Delicious Holiday Recipes.

Hello

Are you gathering for a big feast this month? The delightful food and breaking bread with loved ones is always the highlight of this season for me. Maybe you’ll be attending more than one big smorgasbord and will get to enjoy leftovers for days. Yummy!

I’ve started to plan our Christmas dinner menu, and this time, every year, I share the recipes for what I’ll be cooking. I also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to eat a more plant-based diet.

The common perception is that plant-based food is bland because iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato are seen as staples.   Nothing could be further from the truth.   I eat healthy and incredibly delicious plant-based meals every day!

I’ve tried all the recipes below except the salad and look forward to adding it this year.

Eat More Plants.

I’ve followed a vegetarian/vegan diet for over 30 years because I feel it is better for my health, provided I minimize eating processed food and unhealthy plant-based food like french fries. I’m also motivated because of animal agriculture’s negative environmental impact, humanitarian reasons, and my love of animals.

If you are not ready to embrace this fully, consider having a few meat-free days a week. It will have a positive impact on your health and the planet.

When I lived in Toronto, I hosted an “Orphan Christmas” gathering for more than 30 years. It was a simple philosophy-everyone was welcome. For many years, we hosted it on Christmas day, and anyone who didn’t have a family or wanted to skip a family gathering, were Jewish or simply alone was welcome to join us. Some years, we had small gatherings of around 8 people; other years, we would have close to 30. It was always so much fun and would end with lots of dancing.

In the last few years we hosted in Toronto, it was always a few days after December 25th. We insisted on doing all of the cooking for the event and starting food prep days in advance. Each year was unique, and there was always too much food.

Since we’ve been in Picton, I know I don’t have the same energy for cooking. Now, we share the labour with whoever joins us for dinner and make it a potluck.

In the comments below, let me know what you’re doing over the holiday season and what you plan to eat. I wish you good cheer and happy times with your loved ones.

Bon appétit! Peace & blessings.
